July Update
Dear exciting co-laborer,
Currently, we are preparing to leave on 19 July for Transform
2010, the Mediterranean Outreach. The countries in which we will
work are Italy and Greece. We are looking forward to this
outreach with excitement, to see God’s Glory poured out over the
countries around the Mediterranean Sea.
For the first part of this Outreach, we will attend a conference in Rome, Italy. This conference will consist of worship, evangelism training and a country profile.
“There’s a big mobilisation plan for the whole Mediterranean area. Pray about getting involved. These are some of the most unreached nations in the world!” George Verwer, OM Founder.
The second part of the outreach is in Athens, Greece, where we will serve in many different ways. There will be no problems about how we will understand the native language. Many people in Greece speak English.
Greece was the first European country to be evangelized. Paul journeyed to cities like Philippi, Thessalonika, Athens and Corinth. The Orthodox Church kept the Hellenic (Greek) culture and language alive throughout the 400 years of the Ottoman rule. Greece is one of the first nations in the world to be officially Christian by Constitution, defining the Greece state as Christian Orthodox.
Today, modern Greek society enjoys
increasing prosperity, with membership in the European Union and
a younger generation that is more open to new ideas, both good
and bad.
In the Book of Daniel, Chapter 8, Greece is one of the places
mentioned as being part of end-time events.
While in Greece, Sue and I will work with a local church,
reaching out to the community. Our ministry could include
working with young people, immigrants and special programs.
KEY SCRIPTURE TO PRAY: During the night, Paul had a
vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, “Come
over to Macedonia and help us.” – Acts 16:9.
(l) Pray that the power of the Cross of
Jesus will become wisdom for the people of Greece.
(2) Pray for a revival in Greece through discovering the Gospel
in the patristic writings and the Bible. May Jesus be the center
of their hopes and desires.
(3) Pray for God’s purposes to be fulfilled in all He has
planned for Greece.
(4) Pray for God’s protection in every area of this mission.
(5) Pray for wisdom to learn and understand the Greek culture.
(6) Pray that Sue and I will be used by God in showing the love
of God to the Greeks.
