September Update
Greetings from England,
Sue and I have been away on the Mediterranean mission (Transform 2010) from July 19-31. We served in Rome, Italy and Corinth, Greece.
In Rome, we participated in afternoon outreaches around the Coliseum. We handed out "God So Loved" tracts in many different languages and we witnessed to five people. Afterward, we came together for a debrief. During the debrief, we heard of one who became a Christian. I found out that people in Italy are really no different than people here in England. They feel they have no need for God.
The second week of this outreach we worked among the Gypsy people in Corinth. We learned that these gypsy people have many needs, not least being official recognition by the government. Another even greater need is to know the LOVE of GOD. In Corinth, we worked with a team made up of 11 people from the USA, Hong Kong, Germany, Finland, Greece, Switzerland and England. On our first day we attended a youth group at the church that runs from 7-11 pm. The most amazing thing about this youth group is that sometimes the leadership has a hard time in getting the young people to go home after the meeting. The second night we went to the Gypsy camp to play games with the kids and sing a few songs. Since the team was there, a lot of the parents came out to see what we were doing. We found out later that the parents rarely ever came to see what was going on with the kids. Three of the adults became Christians.
Now that Sue and I have had a taste of Gypsy culture, we want to learn more about Gypsies in the United Kingdom.
The amazing thing is that God has given us a friend who is a Gypsy, and he attends our church. We have expressed our interest in the Gypsy people in the United Kingdom. Please pray for us as we seek God's direction in working with Gypsies in England.
One other interesting thing we learned while in Greece is how important gamily life is to people. this becomes a difficulty in reaching people there with the Gospel, because if people leave the Greek Orthodox church, their family will very likely disown them.
Prayer Requests:
Please pray that God will send labourers to Greece to work with the Gypsy people.
OM Greece is in great need of labourers to work with them. Currently, there are five people working with OM Greece.
